After two hours walking seeing the same thing it's tiring. Particularly the clouded areas. It's like sitting on a never ending bus ride just waiting to get to your destination. Except you are walking, for the most part rubbing knee cartilage. There are several rest spots on the way the Incas used. They used to do this trip from Cuzco and carrying thier master all the way to his summer estate in Machu Picchu. Had the Spaniards found this before they may have reconstructed it and turned into Cuzco on a mountain, not necessarily a bad thing. Cuzco is a cool village mixed with both Colonial and Inca structures. Sand dunes are located in ICA. 5 hours south of Lima. From Ica which is a shit hole, you get to Huacachina. Can only get there by car. Just one entrance. Rest is surrounded by dunes. Town is tiny, yet not congested like ICA and is surprisingly cheap this time of year. Several days there were tops to get to. There's an alternate two day hike which would may be more interesting and you skip DEAD WOMEN'S PASS, which is a bitch or many people. 6 hours uphill and the last hour and a half of inca steps. To get to the top of Sungate Intipunku overlooking Machu Picchu for the classic postcard shot, you don't need to do the four day hike. You can ride into Aguas Calientes stay the night and take the bus in the morning before all the tourists arrive on the train. Plus after the thousands of steps to descend you no longer have the knees to hike the hour up to the top of Huaynac Picchu that overlooks Machu Picchu from the opposite side, or visit the Inca bridge. I got mixed feelings about the hike. First of all, I hate agencies. and any kind of tour packages. Those are for chumps. The Lonely Planet Guide is all you need. But for the trail you are forced to use one by government regulation, same with Tibet. I'd rather had done it with just a couple of porters to carry the tent and cooking supplies, and without any guides or agencies. The porters are much better guides anyhow. These race ahead with their loads to setup camp. The Plane was a small Cessna, fits just three and the pilot. I was in the cockpit which is uncomfortable as hell. Not to mention shaky. If you enlarge the two views from this plane , see what drawings you identify. There should be two. Three Dune buggies race against each other. They each have their specialized drivers who know which dunes they can jump, and race down. Plus where all the smooth sand canyons are. The belt keeps you in tight, much like a roller coaster ride, even when the buggies hops a dune, smacks down the other side, pulling a 360. They burn gasoline like crazy. Powerful motors. Exhilarating. If it tipped over, flipped down a dune, you'd still be okay. As the frame above is a hard shell, plus the belt is on tight. I KNEW THE TRAIL WAS HARD ,BUT DON'T FOR GET MARIA WAS WITH ELT ,SO FOR EVERY PHOTO HERE THERE IS ANOTHER OF MARIA AND THEN MORE OF THE BOTH OF THEM ,MAY FIND THEM IN THE PENTHOUSE WHEN I GET IN THEIR ,MARIA HAD JUST COME OFF THE KEMO AND RED ,WHEN SHE DID THIS TRAIL,AND ITS 6 NIGHTS IN A TENT ,BELOW ZERO AT NIGHT ,RAIN MIST SUNSHINE IN THE DAY ,ALL UP HILL ,ALL UP STEPS ,BUT THEIR MADE IT ,AND LOOK HOW HAPPY MARIA LOOKS AT THE END ,NOT MANY WILL LOOK THIS GOOD AFTER THIS TRIP,JUST ANOTHER THING THEY DID TOGETHER,JUST SO MUCH MY ELT HAD PACKED IN TO HIS LIFE ,BEEN ALL OVER THE WORLD ,BEEN THOUGH UNI, SET UP BUISNESSES ALL OVER THE PLACE ,BECOME A DIRECTOR ,A WRITER,A READER,IMPORTER EXPORTER,BOUGHT 4 APARTMENTS ,BOUGHT THE LAND ,SO MANY THINGS YES ELT REALLY WAS SPACIAL,AND IF I GET MY CHANCE 2 BASTARDS ARE GOING TO FIND OUT JUST HOW SPACIAL AND WHAT MY ELT MEANT ,I JUST JUST GOT TO GET LUCKY ONCE ,THEY GOT TO STAY LUCKY THE REST OF THEIR MISERABLE LIFE'S TILL THE TIME COMES.
